Social Media Comment and Terms of Use Policy
The 16th Judicial Circuit Court’s Facebook page is for the purpose of communicating to the public information about Kane County Courts or other information as deemed appropriate by the Sixteenth Judicial Circuit Court. The ability for the public to comment on posts will remain off. The decision to turn comments on remains at the discretion of the Sixteenth Judicial Circuit Court.
Should the Sixteenth Judicial Circuit Court turn on comments, any comments posted by members of the public do not reflect the opinions of the Sixteenth Judicial Circuit Court. Comments including but not limited to containing any of the following are not permitted and shall be removed:
- Obscene, sexual, or pornographic content or language.
- •Harassing, threatening, or retaliatory content or language, including against a member or employee of the Sixteenth Judicial Circuit Court.
- Content that promotes, fosters, or perpetuates discrimination based on race, age, religion, gender, marital status, disability, national origin, or any other protected status.
- Content that violates any legal ownership interest such as copyright or trademark law.
- Conduct that violates, or encourages the violation of, any federal, state, or local law.
- Commercial activity or promotion that is not related to the business of the 16th Judicial Circuit Court.
- Information that may compromise the safety or security of the public or public systems.
- Spam or links to malicious programs or viruses.
- Private information as defined by law or information deemed confidential by State or Federal statute.
Users who enter or post private or personal information on the 16th Judicial Circuit’s Court’s social media sites do so at their own risk, and the 16th Judicial Circuit Court is not responsible for any damages resulting from the public display of, or failure to remove, private or personal information.
This policy is notwithstanding any internal policies, monitoring, or terms of use of Facebook. The 16th Judicial Circuit Court reserves the right to report any violation of Facebook’s terms of use to Facebook. Content may be subject to retention pursuant to the Illinois Local Records Act. This policy may be amended from time to time, without notice.
